Energy Interviews “Joe American”
“As an industry, we should spend more time talking to average consumers,” says Richard Loomis, President and CEO World Energy Television. “Seldom do we hear from an average consumer about common sense ideas to create a national energy policy, and then we saw Joe American (not his real name) on You Tube.”
It took a lot of time and informal research to find the self-proclaimed average American citizen, who is neither a politician, celebrity, nor a member of a political party – he’s “just a regular American Joe.”
Joe American’s initial You Tube video “Challenges the Presidential Candidates” attracted nearly two million viewers. He received thousands of responses from a cadre of people that included a governor, inventors, conservationists, engineers, public universities, and the McCain campaign. “People who want solutions one way or another because energy is the lifeblood of the industrialized world and the basic building block for human comfort and success,” said Joe.
“America should put a national energy plan in place that includes a goal of being energy independent by 2020,” argues Joe. “We should approach this like President Kennedy did in his 1960 plan to put a man on the moon; the industry must come forward to provide the answers that America needs because the American consumer does not trust Congress to help solve the crisis.”
Average people are beginning to see the solutions needed solve this problem, it is very clear that blaming big oil is not going to suffice any longer. Since our industry has not provided leadership in this area, people are seeking answers any where they can find them. Regular Joe’s can contribute to this debate with the rest of us.
